History

If you follow a straight line from the Statue of Liberty up the western slope of the Hudson River to a corner in the heart of the Greenville section of Jersey City, you will find Sacred Heart School, right where it has stood for almost 100 years. Founded in response to the needs of immigrant families in the early part of the twentieth century, Sacred Heart School’s mission, then as now, emphasizes the education of the whole child – mind, heart and spirit.

Two world wars, a depression, immigration, migration and the ever-changing fortunes of large cities have challenged Sacred Heart over the years. Yet the school’s commitment to help families achieve a better life for their children through excellence in education, self-discipline, social responsibility and the message of God’s love is not only unchanged, it remains as relevant today as it was a century ago.

Sacred Heart School stands alone as the only independent, faith-based elementary school in the eastern section of Jersey City from the Bayonne City line to Journal Square. It offers a true alternative to families seeking an oasis of peace, order and academic excellence.

Be St. Paul. Fill the halls.

Keep the faith alive and on fire - support our students to take them higher.
